Did you ever wonder how the day goes by for italian and polish people? What buildings do they get by on the way to school or work and where they spend their free time? In this article we will try to draw close all of this. We, as a Warsaw youth want to show you places we pass everyday and compare them with newly discovered ones by us, here in Udine. When we thinks of the city’s distant from each other we thin that they are diametrically different from each other, but is it true? Are we right?
Warsaw with many more inhabitants than Udine seems to be much more diverse and modernized, but there are exceptions to this. Walking through Piazza Matteotti in Udine, you can see some similarities to Warsaw’s old town: old tenement houses, colorful buildings, arcades, columns and fountains in the center of the squares. Both market squares are great places to spend time with family and friends and enjoy local food.
However, looking at the center of Warsaw, you can see that high buildings, skyscrapers or office buildings dominate. You can also notice here modern shopping malls, which are known to every young Varsovian. Among others, Złote Tarasy with a distinctive wavy glass roof. Comparing it with the center of Udine, where you can see mainly low buildings with an old character, one of the first differences comes to mind.
Recently we had the opportunity to visit the Salesian bearzi school. As we are currently studying in high school, we can compare the building of the Italian school to the XXI Hugo Kołłątaj High School in Warsaw, which we attend. Despite the fact that the school systems in Italy and Poland are significantly different, the buildings of high schools do not differ from each other in appearance they have an extensive sports and recreational infrastructure. The forms of both buildings are simple from the outside and do not have unnecessary decorations.
To sum up, Warsaw and Udine are cities with interesting functional architecture, full of differences, but also similarities. For two weeks of our stay in Italy, we came to the conclusion that modern buildings prevail in our city, but there are older, historic elements (old tenement houses, residential buildings). Udine, on the other hand, is dominated by traditional, historical buildings. In the end, it is up to each of you to determine from our text what you think and let us know in the comments. We encourage you to read two other articles by us if you are interested in another dose of architectural information.
